The Didgeridrone

A drone created from a looped eucalyptus didgeridoo and ran through an amp.

ByJoshua Meltzer

The story

This was recorded from a real Eucalyptus Didgeridoo (hollowed out by termites) from Aulstralia. I recorded a few long tracks ( I can’t circular breath well so I looped it! Haha) I re-amped through an old fender amp, with a Memory Man. I ran it through some filters, reversed one for the swells, and tweaked more in Reaktor. I Specifically wanted this to be a drone, so its not the best for polyphonic usage, though who says you can’t ! It has a bit of earthiness that I like in my sounds , especially down low.

  • Ghostly and a bit scary! But nice!

I never knew of this instrument. The sound is a little scary, ghostly kind of tone. Very interesting and original!

  • Horror and fantasy combined!

This little patch is both full of horror feels and fantasy magic. I've never even heard of a Didgeridoo, but I absolutely love this. It is very well sampled but unfortunately there are no controls at all, except for a wallpaper that reminded me of a circus, and more specifically killer clowns...

  • Organic and breathy

Although this isn't one of my favorites from joshua i still like it alot. Its very organic and breathy sounding but also a bit synthy too. It kind of blurs the lines between a sci fi pad and a woodwinds patch. Its a really nice drone sounding really deep and characterful in the low end however its not too present down there which is good. The high end offers a more breathy tone and the whole thing has a slightly pulsating vibe going on which adds to the realism and woodwind quality. This is pretty great
