Katarynka
A unique instrument with a lot of character!

The story
“Małe instrumenty” is a Polish band which I have been following for a long time. I am fascinated by them extracting beautiful sounds from instruments that a “serious” musician would never look at. Katarynka is the title of one of the records, but also my first instrument programmed in the Kontakt sampler.
Thanks to David Hilowitz, I took my first steps in script writing, and added a self-recorded response pulse to convultion reverb. Katarynka is a small instrument with only three sounds, completely out of tune but so fascinating. I hope that it will inspire you as well. Grab the crank and play.

Tot Tunes Here We Come!
This is a great sounding library which immediately evokes childhood innocence. The GUI is very pretty and usable, although the range of the instrument is extremely limited. Including the non pitch corrected samples is a nice touch.
Unique but others i prefer
This is a unique sound within the kalimba/ glock family. Its tone sounds a little grainy, not as smooth snd clear as other bell type instruments. The decay is also pretty short, not resonating for as long as other similar instruments. Something that really holds these kind of instruments back though is lack of dynamics and round robins. I think theyre especially important in these kinds of libraries because a slightly different sound and tone is produced depending on where you strike the instrument and how hard. This is a unique instrument but there are many very similar ones on piano book i prefer.
Intimate and innocent but not much else..
This instrument has a real innocence to it but beyond that it doesn't have much about it that would make me use it above other kalimba esque or bell like sounds. Good effort!
