Honey Pad

An eclectic pad created from the sounds of bees.

ByJoshua Meltzer

The story

It’s springtime and with the flowers come the Bees. I found a huge hive on a hike near my house. I went back with a Shure Stereo Condenser mic connected to my phone and recorded them, carefully so I did NOT piss them off. I loaded in to my DAW and used Soundtoys Crystallizer on it to create some granular octaves (below and above) while still keeping their “Bee vibe”. I also created a pad from ebow on my 1960 Gibson Melody Maker with some Trem from my Fender Princeton. I blended the two and Honey Pad was born. Kind of eclectic I know, but 6 weeks of quarantining will do that!

Reviews

  • Can you imagine the sound from the title?

No. This nostalgic and calm pad sound makes me think of Winter season as well. I really appreciate all the concepts and creativity of these libraries!

  • Wait for it... wait for it...

...it builds and builds, evolving beautifully. I don't quite know how to describe the sound - delicate, rich, gentle, longing, organic? All of those. I guess beautiful will do. If Joshua could do a Dolby Atmos version of this we could use it as alternative to flotation tank therapy.

  • Sound Like An Orchestra Pad

This sounds like an orchestra. But It'a pad. The feelings this sound evokes are peaceful. Zen vibes. Enjoy!
