Little Black Electric Piano

This is a piano based on samples from a Hohner Pianet T electric piano. I have added extra effects such as an LFO tremolo to create a Wurlitzer like warble.

The story

I really love the sound of the Pianet T electric piano. I like that is doesn’t quiet have the status of a Wurlitzer or Fender Rhodes. This is due to some of limitations in dynamic range, lack of preamp or lack of sustain pedal.

So I have created decent sampler instrument based on the samples from the Pianet T. But I have added extra features so it now has a tremolo. Reverb, delay and chorus can also be added to create dreamy layers. The piano can be played dynamically and sustain can now be applied.

  • Great sound!

There are already many pianos on pianobook and I always hesitate testing new ones. I did it this time, and to me delight, the sound is really great and original! Well done, thank you!

  • Fantastic instrument!

It's hard to get an electric piano sample to sound right, but this one sounds fantastic. Lovely tone, the LFO is perfect, and it just sounds amazing. A few minor issues, but still one of the best EP samples I've found so far.

    Pros:
    - An excellent representation of a niche keyboard instrument. Although I have never actually played a real Pianet, this seems to be a great imitation of the real deal. The timbre is fascinating and really tickles my brain in all the right places.
    - The playing experience is fantastic. Beautifully responsive touch, good effects (although the chorus is more of a stereo spread and the delay leaves a bit to be desired, I like the reverb a lot!) The dynamic range is limited and the instrument is not punchy, but this might just be a reflection of the original Pianet, and not a limitation of the sample pack.

    Cons:
    - Hiss that accumulates as more notes are played. Not a major problem, and I actually think it really adds to the character and vintage feel of the piano (plus it's very subtle) but audiophiles and perfectionists may be annoyed with it.
    - Strange issues with volume in DecentSampler: the default patch is set to -10 dB, but if I save a preset it resets to +12 dB, causing clipping, and will not allow me to change it. Even closing the plugin window causes the volume to reset back to 12 from whatever I had it set to. This could be entirely unrelated to this particular pack, but it's not an issue I've noticed in DS until now.
